In 2080, the urban area of Greater Peterborough has grown to 366,000 residents and extends from Millbrook to Lakefield. About the same as London Ontario was in 2011 covering an equal area of 162 square miles. (Statistics Canada). Good district planning has preserved large tracts of green fields and forests within the urban area. High tech industries, schools, shopping, homes and recreation centres are within walking or biking range of each other.
Global warming has made water the most precious commodity on earth. Southern California has reverted to its desert environment. Western Ontario is dependent on piped water from Lake Huron to support its stagnant population. The Greater Peterborough Area is rich with the flow of fresh water from the Highlands of Haliburton down through the Kawartha Lakes. The future is here.
